2005 Firefighters of the Year

Nicholas Didelot and Matthew Corsello

Chief John Didelot is pleased to announce that the 2005 recipients of Belltown's Firefighter of the Year award are Lieutenant Nicholas Didelot (on right) and Probationary Firefighter Matthew Corsello (on left). Each year, the Chief selects a Firefighter of the Year from nominations made by the membership. While multiple winners are not unheard of, it is certainly not that common for two members to win this annual award. This year these two members were selected by the Chief because of their tireless service to the department.

Nicholas Didelot is yet another example of the family traditions that have helped make Belltown a great department, joining as a Junior Firefighter when his father was Assistant Chief and later joining his father on the Service Board where he has been elected twice by our membership as 2nd Lieutenant. Last year Nicholas was had more points for participation in emergency calls, training drills and department meetings than any other member, all while being a full time college student at the University of New Haven and working full time back in Stamford during school breaks.

Matthew Corsello also joined Belltown as a Junior Firefighter and has proven during his short membership that he is willing to work hard to help the department and the citizens we protect. Mathew was well known to our department before he joined as he was one of the neighborhood youngsters who would come by the fire house and tell us how he planned to join as soon as he was old enough. While still working towards his firefighting certifications, he is active in various projects around the firehouse, often helping to set up for various functions. Matthew has earned the respect of his fellow members very early on in his time in the volunteer fire service.
